Thursday Thirteen - Cat Facts

1. The nose pad of a cat is ridged in a unique pattern just like a human fingerprint.
   
2. A cat's heart beats twice as fast as a human heart (110-140 beats per minute) and the normal temperature of a cat is 101.5 degrees.
3. Cats cannot see directly under their noses, which explains why they cannot find tidbits on the floor.
4. Cats lack a true collarbone; because of this lack, they can squeeze their bodies through any space they can get their heads through.
5. Cats lose almost as much fluid in saliva while grooming themselves as they do through urination.
6. Cats can hear ultrasound.
7. Cats step with both left legs, then both right legs when they walk or run; the giraffe and camel are the only other animals that move this way.
8. Both humans and cats have identical regions in the brain responsible for emotion.
9. Cats can't taste sweets.
10. A cat's front paw has 5 toes and the back paws have 4. Polydactl cats are born with as many as 7 front toes and extra back toes .
11. A cat has more bones (230) than a human (206); cats have 30 vertebrae, humans have 25; a cat has 500 skeletal muscles, humans have 650.
12. Cats hearing stops at 65 khz while human hearing stops at 20 khz.
13. Cats have a total of 24 whiskers, 4 rows of whiskers on each side. The upper two rows can move independently of the bottom two rows.

Tortie Tuesday - True Confessions

Boni Maroni tagged me to list mine True Confessions. Marilyn MonREOW started this wif a meme on her bloggie called True Kitty Confessions. We gots to confess naughty stuff we do... this is really gonna be hard cause i's purrty near purr-fect. OK, here goes...

1. i's eat Missy's food, specshully when it's Temptations. i's share Missy's wif hers, then I run 'n get mine. but it's really not naughty, cause Missy needs to lose weight 'n i's doing hers a favor.
   
2. i's a real pest to Missy. i wakes her up, i pounces her, i push her away from wherever she wants to sit, just cause i's can. but hers tha big sisfur, right, 'n that's what they's for.
3. i still climb up tha shower curtain (which is nice heavy organic cotton) 'n tha winder curtains (nice cotton, easy to get a clawhold) even tho Mommie ML told me not to ever do that again, ever, uh-uh. i jus does it late at night 'n i don't fink they even notice. hee hee. course, i's climbing ta get a good look at tha ceiling 'n make sure there's no buggies on it. so it's not naughty. nope, it's not.
   
4. i stole Mommie ML's camera strap. i tooked it. i kept pawing at it till i pulled hers camera off on tha floor so many times she had ta take tha strap off so i'd quit attackin tha camera. then i stole tha camera strap out of tha drawer she putted it in. but us kitties has to haf toys, right.
5. i get in tha pantry 'n climb up on tha cabinets. i know how to open tha pantry door 'n get on tha "kitty shelf" where tha Temptations 'n Quincy fevvers are stored. yummie. 'n i get up on tha counters at night 'n on top of tha high up cabinets. Mommie told me not to ever do that again, ever, ever, ever.... but again, i's looking fur buggies 'n tender snakies, so it's really more like a cat service than being naughty.

So u's can see it was furry hard fur me to find anyfing naughty to confess. the more i finks about it, i am a grrrreat cat. See, here's i am helping Missy. she wants some water, but i's jumped in there real quick ahead of hers.
Now i's gonna tag Jack (swoon!) and mine good furr-iends, Grr, Midnight & Cocoa.

In Memory - Tommy Cates

Last night I lost one of my best friends ever. Tommy Cates, my next door neighbor thru two neighborhoods and fifteen-someodd years, went home. His wife, Margaret, is battling pancreatic and now liver cancer.

I've posted a picture of Tommy, he was Bear's most special friend. He and Margaret have a little poodle, Tazz, that everyone thinks is Bear's twin sister, including Bear & Tazz.

Sleepy Sunday

KC sleeps like a pretzel. Here she fits into a much smaller basket. Note her jingle ball is with her, as is her camera strap, which is under her tail, out of view.
