Help!

There is a beautiful young Momma Tortie and her three gorgeous babies on our porch. The Momma seems to have been a "discard", as she is very domesticated. She has terrific markings and very long hair. Momma Tortie's kittens come in a nice selection of colors: basic black with a bit of white, a yellow stripey and the soft grey longer hair. All come attired in tuxedos.

I would foster her and the kits, but we are in assisted living and have our two-pet quota with KC and Missy.

They are on my porch where the temperature in the direct SE sun is 97 degrees F. I put a shade up over the chairs and am freezing plastic bags of ice for them. They have food and water. I would like to find foster home or no-kill shelter in the Houston-Katy-Sugarland area. Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.

KC's 1st Birthday - The Aftermath

KC got a WhirlyBird. KC & Tazz enjoyed playing with it.
Woofies (at least this one) really like these, too.
Lazer Eyes! This Whirlybird makes her crazy.
KC also got a tall kitty tree.
The Skybox at the top (5.5') has sides so she can't roll off.
Here she contemplates the ceiling, eager to get up there and walk on it.
The mid-level is handy for just hanging out, plus there's fev-vers.

It's also a good place for grooming toesies.

KC's 1st Birthday

Can you believe KC is one year old?
Today, June 26, was chosen as KC's official un-official birthday,
to honor Karen C's grandmother's birthday.
[Karen C rescued a tiny KC from the "back room", then she and Deb Taylor worked really hard to have her released]

We've got goodies set out if you'd like....
Missy and I made lots and lots of mouse cupcakes.

Missy made her almost-famous Cool Cat drink... a secret mix of tuna water and catnip.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing KC's first birthday with us.

Margaret

Here is a picture of Margaret's puppy, Tazz. Doesn't she look a lot like Bear? Bear & Tazz always thought they were sisters. Our doggies introduced us to Tommy and Margaret, that is how we met.
We are keeping Tazz while her Mommy Margaret is in the hospital. She and KC love to romp and play.

UPDATE 6/20: Margaret has a very bad case of pneumonia and two collapsed lungs. She is being monitored around the clock and is on pain management.

Tortie Tuesday

Good news about Margaret: She did not have a stroke, she did not accidentally overdose on meds... she has a severe infection, fever, and a lot of pain from the tumor removal on the liver. She will remain in the hospital for a week or longer so they can monitor her progress and keep her on pain medication.

For Miss Piggy and Suzanne....

Rest in Peace, Sweet Girls....

The way to Cat Heaven is a field of sweet grass
where crickets and butterflies play.
A cat may be late in getting to Heaven . . .
there's so much fun on the way!
But an angel will wait at the yellow front door,
wait til a kitty comes home.

And when she arrives, he'll give her a kiss
and some milk in a bowl all her own.
There are trees in Cat Heaven,
trees made just for cats,
trees growing so green and so high.
But no one gets stuck in a tree anymore --
if a cat wants down, she will fly!

And oh the toys, kitty toys everywhere,
thousands and thousands go by.
There are buttons and baubles and small cotton mice --
there is catnip afloat in the sky!
There are angels, of course, with soft angel laps
where kitties can purr loud and strong.
The angels will rub kitties' noses and ears
and sing them a Cat Heaven song.

And when cats are hungry, there's God's kitchen counter
all covered with white kitty dishes,
full of tuna and salmon and mounds of sardines,
and wonderful little pink fishes.

The cats in Cat Heaven are so loved and spoiled
God lets them all lie on his bed . . .
He walks in His garden with a good black Book
and a kitty asleep on His head.

Then when a cat needs, she may just simply ponder
and watch the blue world deep and wide . . .
She will watch the old house
where she once lived and wandered,
and the people who loved her inside.

All cats love Heaven, they know the way there,
they know where the angel cats fly.
They'll run past the stars and the moon and the sun . . .
. . . to curl up with God in the sky.

Formerly Feral Friday - Missy's True Confessions

I was tagged by that dashing reporter, Mr. Hendrix, for True Confessions.

For those that don't know, I didn't live with Mommie ML and Daddy Charley until two years ago, 5/28/05. A nice lady named Natalie took me in off the streets. She almost got arrested for keeping a cat. While my past is my secret, I was, I confess, pretty wild. When Natalie found me, I was expecting a litter and I was about five months old. She found homes for all my kittens, got me fixed and had my claws removed. Natalie really wanted to keep me, but she had severe allergies to my medium-length fur, it's very silky and thick. So she brought me to my new home here. OK, it's all about me:
  1. I don't like anything but dry food to eat. maybe a little tuna water. oh, and Temptations.
  2. I only drink water from a glass, preferable one a human just got. I have trained Young KC to do the same.
  3. I don't climb. I don't have claws on my front paws. I am always sharpening my paws however, just in case.
  4. Back when I was a "cat of the streets", I climbed everything. Telephone poles, trees, houses, even a four story building.
  5. I don't kill or hunt anything. I've got a good life, everything I need is given to me.
  6. My hobby is napping and I am very skilled at it. Practice, practice, practice!
  7. I had a litter of five kittens before I was five months old.
  8. Most people are impressed with my beautiful crystal blue eyes and my mackerel tabby patterns.
  9. I don't like to be held or even touched too much. But I am beginning to copy KC and go rubbing up against my humans and allow them to pet me a bit. Feels good.
  10. I am very quiet, I almost never meow... but I do hiss. And it's a good one -- it's the Big Hissie!
  11. I love catnip. Mommy ML puts a bit on my bed every night. I roll and roll on it until I go to sleep (I do sleep near Mommie ML, but never touching).
  12. I love my kitty carrier. I sleep in it during the day and run to it if I need a safe place to hide. My beautiful blue Gizzy Quilt is in the kitty carrier.

Thursday Thirteen - More Cat Facts

  1. If your cat is near you, and her tail is quivering, this is the greatest expression of love your cat can give you. But if her tail starts thrashing, her mood has changed, time to move away from her.
  2. The domestic cat is the only cat species able to hold its tail vertically while walking. Wild cats hold their tails horizontally or tucked between their legs while walking.
  3. A group of kittens is called a "kindle" and a group of grown cats is called a "clowder."
  4. The cat lover is an ailurophile; a cat hater is an ailurophobe.
  5. Cats roll on their backs to show affection. They expose their bellies only when they feel totally secure.
  6. Cats respond most readily to names that end in an "ee" sound. The most popular names for female cats in the U.S. are Missy, Misty, Muffin, Patches, Fluffy, Tabitha, Tigger, Pumpkin and Samantha.
  7. Black cat superstitions are American. Black cats are lucky in Asia and England.
  8. Sir Isaac Newton invented the cat door.
  9. A falling cat will always right itself in a precise order. First the head rotates, then the spine twists and the rear legs align, finally the cat arches its back to lessen the impact of landing.
  10. The more cats are spoken to, the more they will speak to you.
  11. Cats get their sense of security from your voice. Talk to your cats! And watch your tone of voice. Cats do know when you're yelling at them (but they probably don't care!).
  12. Cats eyes come in three shapes: round, slanted and almond.
  13. Cats rub up against other cats and people to mark them with their scent glands. They usually use the scent glands between their eye and ear or near the base of their tail.

Good Noos: My neighbor Margaret learned this week the spot on her liver is not cancerous. Nothing spread from the pancreas, that area is perfect! She will go ahead with laser surgery this week to remove the spot on the liver, just in case!
