Tortie Tuesday: You Gotta Have Faith!

You might have caught my comment yesterday about the call from CAPS, the local shelter where we took all the cats. It was about Momma Tortie. If you missed it, here it is:

They called me about Momma Tortie today. Apparently she has gone wild. They can't touch her. I explained her past situation and the fact that even though she was loving with me, there were times she just turned and bit, hard. Then she'd go right back to purring. It didn't happen very often, but it's the type of thing you remember.
They do not consider her adoptable. So they are going to send her to a cat refuge. There is a guy that owns a big two story house out in the country on a big fenced piece of land. The cats have the run of the house, and SPECIAL cats, like Momma Tortie, also have outside time to run and hunt and climb. That should be like heaven for her... ML 2/18/2008 08:53:00 PM

Okay, that was good news. Then they had some "bad" news. They couldn't "handle" Babie Tortie. Literally. She apparently tried to bite a couple of the workers and they were scared of her (after all, she weighs a whole pound). Being so young, with so much attitude, they didn't see her as having much of a future. She is definitely not a threat around here, unless you considered being "purred to death" a problem. So we brought her back home.

Deb had been telling me before, during my depression over losing a house full of kitties, "you have to have faith". When I said Babie Tortie needed a new name, Deb stopped and said, "Why, it has to be Faith, of course. Now you have Faith!"

Actually, Deb's first choice for a name was Boomerang, since she came back to me, but we decided that could be her middle name.

So, may I present to you, the tiny tortie Faith Boomerang Sherwood, another in a long line of petite "yellow dot" torties (we think KC coached her):

Mancat Monday

In memory of my two favorite mancats, Sol & Smokey. Ann made this, it's great.

Farewell, Mites & Tortie Family

The Mites have moved on to a new chapter in their lives.

And they have taken my heart with them.
We took them to Citizens for Animal Protection (CAPs) Saturday morning.
There are no kittens in their shelter and people are wanting kittens.
They were very impressed with the beauty and health and disposition
of these wonderful little cats.

In spite of the joy of knowing Missy is recovering,
it has been devastating to be without my rowdy little boys.
They were always all over me, talking to me, playing, purring,
helping me with whatever I happened to be doing.
I miss them more than words can say.

My husband is paralyzed on the left side, and the number of cats
running about made it dangerous for him to get around.
A fall could be life-threatening due to the blood thinner
he takes to prevent another stroke.

They told me they can almost 100% guarantee my Mites
will all get fantastic forever homes.
I will never forget them and the joy they brought me.

Today we took Momma Dinah, Autumn, Babie Tortie,
Baby Socks & Tippy to the shelter.

People are going to be so happy to see this wonderful selection of
healthy, happy cats that we raised.
And we took them in and raised them just for today,
when they can go and find homes of their own!

My utmost admiration and awe goes to anyone who fosters, who knowingly give their hearts aware that one day it will be broken.

Deb, of the Taylor CatSSSSS, posted a beautiful poem about fostering, the last line reads:
I may not be yours, but you will always be mine.

Thankful Saturday

UPDATE: Saturday 12 noon - Missy relaxing on the dryer in the laundry room.
Biggify, her eye (left) looks much better.

Missy and KC share a little snack (Temptations!) early Friday morning.

Missy Friday night, still sleepy from the sedatives.

So very thankful for the fact Missy is going to be okay.
She and KC were asleep since they got home and
continue to sleep all day Saturday.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and support, comments, emails, e-cards, etc.
You don't know what it means when you're stressed and losing it to have all this wonderful, positive support pouring in.

Pray for Missy Blue Eyes

Update: Missy and KC are both sleeping and healing close by each other right now. KC did suffer extreme trauma. She will not leave Missy's carrier, she is either inside or on top of it. I made Missy a bed in the closet by the carrier, where it is dark. Her eye is still yellow-ish, but it should return to it's beautiful blue color. We have to watch her very closely for signs the eye is not healing properly, just in case. Dr. Smith wants to see her in a few days. But she is expected to make a full recovery and have two healthy, beautiful baby blues.

Thank you for all the support. I just about came unglued with this incident, guess everyone in the blogosphere could tell and gave me lots and lots of support. Thank you.

Please, please, please keep my beautiful Missy in your prayers,
that she doesn't lose an eye or her eyesight.

Her big beautiful blue eye is badly scratched.
It is very swollen outside, and when she does open it, it is not blue, but a reddish-yellow.
There are a lot of tears with some blood in it.
She is sleeping on the recliner beside me and she did eat a few temptations.
Missy will see Dr. Smith when she opens this morning.

Whisker Wednesday

The only female Mite, Autumn, has grown into a lovely young lady cat.
Check out those stunning, shimmering whiskers.
Momma Tortie's only little girl, Babie Tortie, is also a beautiful young lady.
Handsome mancat Smokey with his two white whiskers.
The dashing Bond has a lovely set of pure white whiskers.
(Sol and Bond are now members of tha Tuxedo Gang Hideout - here's the post).
Sweet KC has a few white whiskers as well.

Tortie & Tabbie Tuesday

Missy is curling up in one of the CatNappers,
while KC and Smokey share a chair.

KC really loves having a little brother.
And Smokey snuggles with Missy,
just haven't been able to get a picture yet.
