Project 2996 - A Tribute to 9/11 Victims

If you go to this website you can sign up to support a victimHERO of 9/11. The project is called "2996" for the number of victimsHEROES of the 9/11 terrorist attack. So far, they have only 1556 represented (I am the 1556th tonight, so there hopefully will be others...).

The idea for the project is that an individual blogger is assigned a victimHERO and creates a memorial to them on their blog. These tributes will be posted on 9/11/2006 (however, I couldn't wait...will post a BIGGER tribute on 9/11).

I was assigned Thomas Langone, age 39, a Police Officer killed at the World Trade Center while trying to rescue those trapped inside. His brother, a Firefighter, died at WTC the same day.

I discovered this project at Secret Paws , it originated at BritCats. This project was started around the end of June 2006 and is still lacking in members. As expressed on Secret Paws, it would be great if the cat blogging community could step in and lend a hand...or paw!

If you would like to do this [Deb and others], the website suggests simply "sharing" by registering in your blog name and using someone else's blogsite.

Also, they need people to put the word out about this...Deb, SWMBO, would be perfect. They suggested contacting the media, that it would make a great human interest story. I was thinking of ONE PARTICULAR cat blogger (hint, initials Deb T) when I read that part.

PS Mom says I have to say that nothing bad will happen to you if you don't play the tag game. That was easy to say cuz it's true. hahaha

Deb, You could also sign up for a blog at blogspot JUST FOR the tribute. You don't have to have a website.

Boni signed up for the Hot(M)BC blog, and I've signed up for my jewelry site.

I think it's a great thing to do. I'm glad you put up an announcement ML. I feel silly for not thinking of it myself. LOL

ML, thanks for the info. I have 2 rememberances, one for each of the Royal's blogs. I don't know some techno-things, as usual, and I may have made the tribute all wrong. If you get a chance check on Rose and the Royals and see how badly I messed up!
I'll wait to post on royalphotos when I know how to get it right.

Since I live in the Tri-State area, SOME media around here would be interested...

We signed up too. My hero is a NY firefighter named Durrell Pearsall. He was quite a guy. So sad.

We're working on our tribute to his spirit.

After you sign up, go to the "List of Assigned Victims" and locate their name. You should be able to click on it and get additional info. Also, I Googled his name and found lots of info. The website gives more info, said you will find out more using a name or profession, if known.

PLEASE, let me know if I can help, love tracking down info. And this is such a good project.

BTW, Rose (Rose and the Royals) did a beautiful tribute on her blog today. She is a great writer.
