Tortie Tuesday: You Gotta Have Faith!

You might have caught my comment yesterday about the call from CAPS, the local shelter where we took all the cats. It was about Momma Tortie. If you missed it, here it is:

They called me about Momma Tortie today. Apparently she has gone wild. They can't touch her. I explained her past situation and the fact that even though she was loving with me, there were times she just turned and bit, hard. Then she'd go right back to purring. It didn't happen very often, but it's the type of thing you remember.
They do not consider her adoptable. So they are going to send her to a cat refuge. There is a guy that owns a big two story house out in the country on a big fenced piece of land. The cats have the run of the house, and SPECIAL cats, like Momma Tortie, also have outside time to run and hunt and climb. That should be like heaven for her... ML 2/18/2008 08:53:00 PM

Okay, that was good news. Then they had some "bad" news. They couldn't "handle" Babie Tortie. Literally. She apparently tried to bite a couple of the workers and they were scared of her (after all, she weighs a whole pound). Being so young, with so much attitude, they didn't see her as having much of a future. She is definitely not a threat around here, unless you considered being "purred to death" a problem. So we brought her back home.

Deb had been telling me before, during my depression over losing a house full of kitties, "you have to have faith". When I said Babie Tortie needed a new name, Deb stopped and said, "Why, it has to be Faith, of course. Now you have Faith!"

Actually, Deb's first choice for a name was Boomerang, since she came back to me, but we decided that could be her middle name.

So, may I present to you, the tiny tortie Faith Boomerang Sherwood, another in a long line of petite "yellow dot" torties (we think KC coached her):

The strange thing is, Babie Tortie, now known as Faith, never bit anyone, never even scratched.
She played with Margaret's grandkids (ages 2 and 4), neighborhood babies, woofies, etc. Her only problem is she is a social butterfly. She never wanted to stay in the room with her mother and brothers. She had to be out where things were going on. Even if she was asleep on your lap, snoring and purring, she wanted to be with her people.
That's what makes the whole thing so unbelievable. And the shelter said they had about six people really wanting her, but she wouldn't let anyone touch her.

We're so glad little Faith found her way back to you - glad for her and glad for you guys. It sounds like Mama Tortie will be set up nicely too, with room to roam outside at the cat refuge. We know a lot of cats and people have said it before, but we think you're a champion foster mom, ML, and you did a wonderful job raising all of those kitties.

Purrs to all in the Sherwood household,

Deb comes up with the BEST names! All five of her kitties have superb names, and of course she named Grace, too. Grace definitely lives up to her name, and I have no doubts about Faith.

Congrats, ML and Deb. She's beautiful!

Faith obviously didn't want to be parted furrom you and she made sure she got her own way to return to you.
Momma Tortie's new home in the refuge sounds like it will suit her down to the ground.

Oh yeah, she looks like a real man eater in that photo. I have a related story to tell, but it involves a woofie, so maybe I'll tell the story tomorrow on woofie Wednesday.

Daisy took the words right from our mouths - it was meant to be! It makes us think of that quote: "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours ..." Faith was just biting everyone to let them know she's YOURS!

I'm so glad you got to keep one! I was hoping that you would get one back. I hope your husband, Missy, & KC aren't too upset with you!

Yep, KC must have coached Faith for sure. How else could Faith have scared full grown humans when she only weighs a pound? hehehe But it's super they called you :) And it's so great that Mama Tortie is going to a cool place to live where she can go OUT and all.

Our Lady's eyes are dripping all over the place. She's happy though, go figure. That fluffy little miniature KC was meant to be with you - WELCOME HOME FAITH! We hope you settle in on mommy ML's lap and cuddle and purr for hours and hours and hours. And they all lived happily ever after...

You know, Lucy was exactly like Mama Tortie. She was so loving and purry, then she'd lash out without warning and bite. We never knew why. She went to a place very similar to the one Mama Tortie will call home. However, the people there said they found someone who wanted to give her a forever home. I guess as an only cat and with the right person, Lucy was much more relaxed.

Anonymous said...

By the way, KC must have given some great lessons. After all, the people at the shelter where she was were terrified of her 6 week old, hissing, biting little self. And the way she jumped into the Lady's arms to cuddle under her chin - scary!

Yay! We love this story. We were feeling very sad for you about all the kittens leaving even though it probably was the best thing. But we think it is great that Faith made herself so difficult at the shelter that she got to come back home! Those torties, I don't know... heh heh heh

Do you believe in 'synchronicity'?

The uncanny coincidence. The unlikely conjunction of events. The startling serendipity. Who hasn’t had it happen in their life? You think of someone for the first time in years, and run into them a few hours later.

On Feb 14,I did my T13 -Expressive Cats post. I looked at the kitties in your blog and chose Baby Tortie(Faith). Then she goes away and comes back! This is too cool.
Faith is a darling. You need to keep her.Synchronicity you know :)

Welcome back home Faith Boomerang. We love her name. We can't believe that that little angel was deemed unadoptable. Poor thing - it seems that she knew where her forever home was all along, and she just wanted to get back to it.

How is Missy's eye doing? And is KC feeling all better now?
