Torti & Tuxie Tuesday

Momma Tortie attacked Missy Blue Eyes on our "Easy Like Sunday" morning. Since Missy doesn't have any claws, I jumped in to separate them. Mistake! Momma Tortie bit me on the right wrist, really hard. I did snatch Missy out of the way.

Sunday night the site of two large puncture wounds began to swell and turn firey red. The redness almost circled my arm. And, had a blood streak on my arm. It was very painful to move my fingers. Monday morning the entire wrist halfway up to my elbow was swollen to twice it's size. I couldn't even use my right hand.

Charley made me go to the doctor Monday. After a blood test, tetanus shot, RX for antibiotics and pain, and a stern warning about the dangers of getting bitten by a domestic cat, I was sent home to rest.

When we got home, Missy and Momma Tortie were sitting, side by side.

Ouch. Once that happened to one of the techs at the vet where Momma worked.. When it happens, it's nasty.

I hope you get well soon and start feeling better.

Purrs.

One of our grandmas actually got REAL cat scratch fever from their cat biting her. She wound up in the hospital and everything. Scary stuff!

I bit mom on the hand once when she would not let me go (long story!!). She had to get IV antibiotics at the hospital for 2 days!! I never did that again!! She forgave me 'cause she knew it was a mistake. Hope you feel better soon.

Well, I was hoping it would be gone this morning, but the swelling has spread all the way around the wrist and it's all bright red. Guess the pain meds are helping a bit, because I just have to check out the Cat Blogosphere and see what is going on. hee hee.
Yes, Samantha & Tigger, we got your grrrreat calendars & journal last night. So glad we decided to trade.
You all are absolutely correct. Momma Tortie didn't mean to bite me, she was in a 13-cats-in-one-room frenzy. Like I said, we get home and she and Missy are bestest friends.
Thanks for all the purrs and prayers, ML

Oh, goodness, Mommy wants you to see Dr. Bob tomorrow!!! Please take it easy and rest. We know that Mama Tortie didn't mean to bite you. Seaborne has bitten Mommy before...accidentally of course!

Get well soon!

Oh my . . . isn't that just the way?

I scratched my mommy (an accident) last week, and before she knew it the scratch was turning yellowy and was all swollen. Luckily she had antibiotic and didn't have to go to the doctor. I hope your bitey gets better soon!

Oh we hope you're feeling better soon! Our Mommy's Aunt had that happen before too, it;s very painful. We hope that Missy and Momma Tortie helped you feel better.

Yikes! We sure hope it gets better furry fast. Our people have a fear of Grr teeth too, when they've gotta pull her off Riley, but so far no puncture wounds. Usually they start spraying Grr with water as they approach. Love & purrs from all of us.

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Ah.. I've made note of the "Grr water spray" approach to be used from now on. And Deb got me an appointment to see Dr. Bob first thing in the morning.
I'm glad, as my wrist is reddening and swelling more. Margaret just left, and she said it looked much worse than yesterday.
Thanks, Deb.

Ouch! Cat bites can get scary infected. I've seen many on our vet and vet tech friends. Hope you heal and feel better soon!!!

Yep, we cats give a nasty bite. If it happens again, you should go to the human vet immediately. Apparently we have a lot of really nasty germs in our mouth that are really bad for beans.

PS - feel better soon

Oh, be very sure to keep an eye on it and take your medicine! The same thing happened to my human's daughter when she was in high school. A friend's cat gave her a small bitey on her arm and even though she washed and medicated it, in just a few hours she had red streaks and a 104 fever. She ended up in the hospital for 10 days, two surgeries, almost lost her hand and still has a terrible scar! Our biteys are serious business!

That sounds very nasty, please look after yourself! Hope the medicine works and it starts getting better, if not, go to casualty or whatever you call it in Mericky (ER?)

Yup! Cat bites can be bad things! Mom had just a teeny one from the neighbors cat once and it hurt like heck! Hope you get to feeling better ML!

OWEEEE. Hope your mum gets better soon. And don't wait to go to the doctor after getting bit.

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Again, I am very glad I'm going to a different doctor tomorrow. It hasn't improved since I went to our old family doctor on Monday and all your stories have made me aware of what a danger this is.
Momma Tortie is acting "sheepish", hanging her head when I come in the room. They were just being cats. I've got the spray bottle of water, per Grr's family.
Don't forget tomorrow we've got Dolce's Story Chair and The Mo Show on Dicken's Christmas Carol. More info on the Cat Blogosphere. KC calculated all the North American time zones.

OUCH! I know how much that hurts. I get bit by one of the shelter cats. I should have known better to put my hand where I did at that time. It wasn't the cat's fault. I washed and scrubbed and scrubbed some more, but it still got infected. It happened on Friday night so Saturday afternoon I drove myself to the ER. Got some good drugs and was good as new within a few days. I hope your ouchie feels better now. Those things are not to be messed with. I've heard horror stories about cat bites.

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Yeah, I know I don't blame the cat. They were all worked into a playful frenzy. Sure won't do that again.
I immediately washed it out, then poured peroxide on it, then alcohol and finally antiseptic.
This looks bad, but not as bad as when Charley was bitten by a brown recluse spider. In his case, the skin was red at first (like mine), but then turned black and peeled off, leaving an ulcerated depression.

The Lee County Clowder said...

We hopes your bitey is feeling better now. If not, we hope the doctor gived you really good pain killer drugs. That way, at least you'd get something out of the fight. :-)

Be careful with kittie bite wounds. They get infected real easily. Kittie teeth are basically hypodermic needles, and cat saliva is loaded with nasty little bugs.

Jan Price said...

Ouch! We're sorry you were bitten. We hear our bites (the cats speaking here) can be quite painful and get infected easily. Hope it heals quickly.
