Faith Boo - Tornado Tortie Tuesday

The middle bedroom was cleaned and almost ready for furniture.
All we had to do was put the boxes and carpet cleaner in the closet.
Until Miss Faith Boomerang decided to help out.
She opened and shredded a box of trash that was taped shut.
Next, she got a roll of paper towels out of another box.
Finally, she knocked over a few of those storage boxes,
spilling the papers inside and shredding them.
All this was done in about thirty minutes.
It took a lot longer to clean up.

See the comments for an in-depth interview as the Taylor CatSSSSS discuss the dynamics of Faith Boo's artistic expressions.

Update
I had just finished the morning scooping and couldn't find F-Boo.
She was back in the middle room, apparently trying a hand paw at
"litter" art... must be a bit like sand art????
The Taylor CatSSSSS immediately contacted us over this latest "work", saying they see all types of creative expression begging to be set free.
All I see is having to wheel out the vacuum again!

I never new the F in the tornado scale stood for Faith Boo (the Fujita guy might disagree). Nice F5 there. She's taking that Texas Tornado title to heart! I just told my tortie that I am glad she did not turn into a tortie tornado when she was younger.

Oh, Lisa, that is so cute. Yes, she has taken that title of Texas Tornado Tortie to hear. Of course, she has always been able to destruct anything. We hoped it was an artistic creativity. Nahhhh.
Hopefully she will be outgrowing this. Soon.
She's eight months old now, so anyday now, right??????

** Sorry I messed up on the first comment **

Wow, Faith, you sure created a lot of chaos! Merlin likes to shred paper towel, so our humans have learned not to leave any out where he can get at them! We can't believe you got into a box that was taped shut! Wow!

Wow, you did a great job! Your poor Mommy!

When Pumuckl was younger he was our little toilet paper destroyer. I am glad he gave up this habit as I have always found paper snow all over the house.

The Taylor CatSSSSS talked about this artistic piece with the artist, Faith Boomerang Sherwood, here are the questions and responses:

Questions and Answers

TTCSSSSS: What do you think the place or position of paper sculpture is compared to other forms of sculpture, art, painting, etc.?

FBS: It's rather singular and distinctive actually, because it isn't common at all - that's why it is such a stand out. Not very many artists work seriously in this medium, and of the ones that do, there are a handful that are simply outstanding - incredibly good work. Many others venture into paper sculpture, they try it, but don't go very deep or far with it. It looks easy, but it isn't. It is a really a craft on a certain level, but the cats who are really great at it bring it to the level of a true art form. There is a delicacy about the form, a fragility, a lightness, while the three dimensional aspects bring a subject to an amazing life that you don't find often in other forms.

TTCSSSSS: Are there some other aspects that are important to note about this medium?

FBS: Yes, I'd say so. One facet is that when you own a detailed and finely rendered paper sculpture, you'll have a one-of-a-kind work, the only one in the world - unique in the true sense of the word. Paper sculpture on this level is not easily reproducible, doesn't lend itself to any kind of mass production or reproduction. You can photograph it - even this can be impressive if the piece is really good - but the experience of viewing it in person is the real experience.

TTCSSSSS: What elements would you say particularly characterize your work?

FBS: My work, in a general or overall sense, is about fine detail; not rough or gross shapes put together. I think it is detail that brings things to life, to a higher level of perceived reality, and this experience is what many viewers report to me. Detail delivers this, and while the time invested is significant, sometimes huge, it is worthwhile and makes all the difference. Each paper sculpture calls for creativity to come into play, not to mention thinking the process through, working out spacing and depth and layers, visualizing, planning, and, yes, problem solving, as the three dimensional work begins to take shape.

TTCSSSSS: What kind of response do you normally get from viewers?

FBS: Often viewers have been known to exclaim “Wow”! Mommy and Daddy have been known to make this exclamation. To achieve this kind of "Wow!" response is not unusual, and the overall effect of both shape and detail, as well as depth and dimension, all the care and time that goes into the work, can produce exactly that response. Part of what led me to pursue paper sculpture seriously was this response to my first works. I was actually fairly surprised by it.

TTCSSSSS: Do you use regular paper and glues?

FBS: Papers with special textures, weight, construction, special colors, or other qualities are selected for particular works. Finding, specifying, and obtaining these papers, in addition to all other aspects, is time consuming, but well worth the effort for the final outcome. Paper matters greatly.

TTCSSSSS REVIEW:
We see what interests the artist a little at a time. Some are highly representational while others more abstract. What does each piece tell us about the artist when she created it? Good mood or bad mood? Tired or wide awake?

Some of the pieces on view suggest that they took about five minutes to complete. Others wouldn't surprise us if they took hours to create. A first draft here. Rework this detail. Rework that detail. Complete. This artwork feels alive. It demands your attention.

It takes an artist with vision to make sense of all the materials she chooses to work with. FBS does that. Very well in fact. We very much like what we see.

Awesome! I (Tasha) am very impressed - especially the ingenious way that you 'liberated' your raw materials from the box! I might have to go and exercise a little of my own artistic expression...

Oh, FBS, you have already moved to a new medium....litter aka sand art! We clearly see what you are trying to create...hope you Mommy lets you finish what could be your next creation. Auntie ML, you need to be checking out FBS' litterbox art....who knows what wonderful new creations you could just be scooping away! You have to be careful! Perhaps you should consider selling some of FBS' creations on EBAY!

Faith Boo - it is good to see you growing into a fine example of tortieness! When we were about your age, we made a unique artwork out of jello powder, paper towels, and birdseed that was a joy to behold. Even our grandmother couldn't believe that we did it ourselves! At first she thought a bean had broken into mommy's house. While we've never been able to reproduce that first stunning achievement, just the other morning Ivy did an outstanding job with a box of kleenex. Great work, Faith Boo!

That's the most amazingly beautiful thing we've ever seen! We're gonna have to post Riley's wood sculpture soon. She's got some kitchen cabinet art in the works.

I'm stunned! It's gorgeous! And so are you! I tried to do something similar with about a hundred of the Lady's CD's once, but they wouldn't shred. Got most of them outta those cases though, and some of them rolled purrty well after the 4 foot drop to the floor. Soon as I'm feeling better, I'm gonna find something to shred and make you proud of me. I was throwing up this morning and I wouldn't eat - just a little water. The Lady tried to give me Temptations, so I ate one then whapped the rest onto Cocoa's head (he was under the chair). He thanked me though.

Oh, my......time to invest in some Rubbermaid storage containers. That is what Momma uses. She likes them, they are bigger and higher and Patches can't hang her butt over the edge and pee all ofurr the floor.

Ummm, the second boxes Faith opened, the ones that were going in the closet. Those were our past years tax records, carefully packed in Sterlite containers. Somehow the tornado tortie can "un-snap" them.

After reading about Faith Boomerang's work over at The Taylor Catsssss, I just had to see her pieces up close & personal. As an artist myself, I must say I'm impressed by the depth of insight shown by such a young, new talent. Her creative work in such a wide variety of media is an inspiration to all cats to express themselves!

Keep up the good work, F-Boo. I know you'll go far in the art world.
