KC: Day 7 - One Week Anniversary

Here is KC today, 7/29, one week after arriving in Houston.
Below are a couple of pictures for comparison.
This is the infamous "LA Outlaw" mug shot taken Sunday, 7/16.
KC had just been brought in and photographed when Karen C dropped by the shelter.
On Friday 7/21, KC was freed after a day of phone calls from Deb*
She spent that night with Karen C. & family.
You could already see the relief in her face.
* She who must be obeyed

KC: Day 5 Photo

KC, snuggled up in a little kitty ball, sound asleep on Charley's desk. Look at those red & white stripes!

KC: Day 5

Today has been great. KC is doing so much better. The antibiotic must be working. She is so lively, she has stopped panting and is breathing through a runny nose. She is wolfing down food, playing with free abandon, climbing and "flying" off anything and everything. She knows her name, KC (Kay-CEE). And she thinks Bear is her mom.

Bear is teaching young KC well. And KC is picking it all up. Life lessons, such as never eat directly from a plate! Too boring. Spread it all over the floor.

Remember the turbo scratcher, originally purchased for Missy? The one Missy used for a bed, complete with tail-holder? Well, little KC fits perfectly in the "tail-holder" part. She gets in there and runs round and round, pushing the ball in front of her. Will post pictures later.

KC has an appointment tomorrow (Friday) at 3:30 p.m. with Dr. Smith of the Houston Cat Hospital. We plan to meet Godmother Deb at the vets and go on to Petco for some wonderful toys, maybe even a climbing tree! And we promise photos this time!!!

Thank You, Deb

My new necklace matches my new kitten! My pictures are not very good, but trust me, it is gorgeous. Some of the stones are faceted and sparkle. Just perfect. This is MY style of jewelry. Click on the photo to see it up real close! BTW, the gift card just had a big evil laugh!

KC: Day 4

KC is sleeping on my shoulder while I type. She spent last night sleeping on Charley and then me.

It is flooding outside. When If it stops raining, will take KC to vet: she can't breathe thru her nose and gasps. It's normal for a shelter kitty and she is taking antibiotic. And, oh, is she gaining weight. Bet her little fat belly weighs a pound by itself. In the other photo, KC has discovered the joys of kitty grass. I was getting her RX ready, so she was up on the kitchen counter where I keep Missy's grass.

KC: Day 3 Photos

Click for lots more adorable detail!

KC: Day 3

KC decided to share Bear's breakfast this morning! Remember yesterday? Bear likes homemade chicken soup. Tiny KC sneaks in under the unsuspecting Bear's front legs and daintily snitches bites of yummy puree chicken breast. Literally right under Bear's nose! KC has had two doses of the Clavamox drops. No sneezles so far today. Today she's been much more active. She climbs, she jumps, she leaps, she flies!

We finally got some rest this afternoon. KC is quite the little snuggle bug. Here she is, right before we went to sleep, wrapped in a gorgeous afghan a wonderful friend and neighbor crafted (thanks again, Dixie!) for me. It is beautiful, just like KC.

In case you're wondering, Missy settled down on the table right next to bed, just like she always does.

KC: Day 2

Looky here, put breakfast down for KC. Turned back to see if she was eating....and Bear had dropped by to share.

Tiny KC had her first vet appointment with Dr. Elizabeth Smith of the Houston Cat Hospital at 3:00 pm. We really missed Deb and Sloane being there for KC's first vet visit. We had been planning on it for a while. But Deb is doing what she should be doing, staying in bed, resting and healing. (She better be!)

KC passed the exams with FLYING COLORS! At first Dr. Smith was unsure about KC's prognosis. But when she saw her gobbling down food, prancing around playing, attacking fingers, snuggling to sleep on my shoulder, she knew it was okay. Here are the facts on KC:
  • She is about 4 weeks old.
  • She doesn't have all her baby teeth.
  • She does not have Leukemia or Feline AIDS.
  • She does not have worms or tapeworms. (she had de-worming medicine)
  • She does not have a single flea.
  • She barely weighs 14.5 ounces.
  • She has a respiratory infection. (she got antibiotic)
  • She has an upset tummy.

There was one health issue: her weight. It's hard to tell with all that lavish fur, but she is way too thin. She will have to visit the vet's office two times a week for a while. If she can't gain weight, she could be in serious trouble. I'm optimistic that voracious appetite will see her through.

Everyone just fell madly in love with her [DUH!]. They all agreed she is a tortie!!?? I don't know much about cats, but Deb's torties don't look a thing like her. But it's just a name, who cares.

Just talked to Deb again. Spats was sprawled out over her, to keep her from moving. Think its a team effort, her five cats are working in shifts to make sure she doesn't get up. She seems to be feeling good and understands the need for rest and relaxation right now.

Get Well, Deb

All updates on Deb will be posted at Kat's Cat of the Day. Kat has a special section just for Deb.

Sunday

Click on the pictures for a larger view. In the "sleeping" picture, if you look closely, it looks like an orange and white stripe cat under scattered black tipping. Amazing coloration. Check out Karen C's blog for info on KC's stay Friday and a truly great limerick by Midnight:

1st Breakfast

It's 5 a.m. in Houston. Bear got me up to walk her, then get her breakfast. Missy comes in to see what's going on. Enter KC. She had been hiding, but when she sees Missy, she RUNS to her.

Missy didn't notice until KC rubbed against her. Missy ran into another room. No hissing, just a curious, surprised look from Missy. It's not much, but it's a start. KC obviously NEEDS Missy -- she did not come out until she spotted Missy!!! We'll see what happens in the days to come. Also, KC discovered the Big Water Bowl. And she used the litter box during the night. No accidents yet (that I've found)!

Riding Home with Charley

R & R

KC & Charley are taking a nap. Charley said KC is really "humming".

I was holding KC after Deb left. The kitten was kinda quivering, I thought she was "talking" to me, like she did with Deb & Sloane. No, not talking! She threw up all over my shirt.

I put her in the litter box again. Nothing. This is the fourth trip to the litter box. Next, she climbs in the neat wooly bed Karen C sent with her. I thought she was snuggling down to sleep. WRONG. She was pooping -- in her kitty bed.

We keep a bit of Purina Kitten Chow for Missy, as a treat. KC found it and ate before I realized it. Now, she is snuggled up asleep beside Charley.

I am going to go rest, we're having some nice stormy weather. Going to get "Hissy Missy" beside me for a nap. She stopped hissing when I come in the room. That's a start.

Missy Meets KC...

No explanation needed!

Welcome Home, KC

Here is the ferocious beastie at home, on my shoulder. I'll keep posting photos. Sloane took around 150 and between Charley and I it's another 50 or 60. All this for such a teeny cat.

KC's Big Adventure....

The photos are small but magnificent. Without seeing a lot of detail, you can tell by the body language this is a Happy Kitten.

Karen C. and Deb literally had to fight for the release of little KC this morning. Needless to say, they got their cat.

Missy's Pillow...

Missy's pillow just arrived...it is so sweet. But the surprising thing is how it goes with my favorite [old] cotton quilt. We left all the color choices up to Linda...amazing! Isn't it perfect. Click on the picture to enlarge for detail. The other photo shows both pillows, one for me and the other for Missy's "First Mommy", who had to give Missy up due to severe allergies.

The Best Cat Pillows Ever....

Al and Linda make beautiful custom pillows (and other goodies). The pillow above was made for Karen C and shows her three cats, Grr, Midnight and Cocoa. It was designed using the photo on the right. If you are interested in your own pillow, their email is: scotties1@charter.net. And to see more of Karen C's three kitties, check out their blog at: http://grrmidnightcocoa.blogspot.com/.

Hello, KC

Thanks to Karen C., this tiny beauty was saved from the dreaded "back room" and an instant death sentence. This "vicious feline" was transported to the shelter in a metal box to protect the employees. Karen ran over, retrieved KC from her metal prison, and began cuddling her. So much for the "ferocious feral".

Deb calls her the "Charlie Brown Christmas Tree" kitty. Hopefully, KC will be traveling to Houston soon, to begin an exciting new life full of wonderful things.

UPDATE: KC will be released Friday a.m. and spend the day at Karen's house, preparing for her flight to Houston.

Thanks, Karen & Deb, for masterminding this "rescue".

Catnip

The gorgeous cat in the photo is Mo. He is the Supervisor of Catnip at Prairieland Herbs and, as you can see, takes his job very seriously. Donna & Maggie, an intrepid mother-daughter team, grow all kinds of herbs and plants on their Iowa farm. They use these organically grown botanicals to create the most soothing, comforting products imaginable.

Missy absolutely adores their fresh, pesticide-free catnip. It is her paws-down favorite. She can smell it through the glass candy jar we store it in. Be sure to check out the hydrosols, which they make themselves in an old (antique!) still they refurbished. The catnip hydrosol is a wonderous thing to Missy, as long as I don't spray it on her. It also functions as a natural bug repellant for humans, quite a statement here in steamy Houston.

Weekend Update

First, as Sanjee reported on Ho(M)BC, all the fosters from the Litter of Squillions of Green Wall Shelter Cats now have 4-ever homes! Yea! Many thanks to Robyn at Ho(M)BC for all her assistance and working on her birthday (purrthday) to make sure we got the kitties of our choice. Happy [Late] Birthday, Robyn!

Several from the Litter of Squillions will be traveling to Fuzz Pack regulars:
  • Theo - Missy
  • MinMin - Emma, Benji & Marley
  • Darkle - Grr, Midnight & Cocoa
  • Butterscotch (Buttercup?) - Jake & Spot
  • Daisy - Royals (Queen Emily, Prince Brutus, Princess Marigold)
  • Orinch - Taylor Cats (Seaborne, Summer, Sassy, Spats & Sam)

We will be posting pictures of the arrival and welcome of the Squillions in the days to come.

Second, a couple of more Fuzz Pack blogs to mention. Visit Katnippia and say hi to Princess Siamia, Taps, Shamy and Pounce. Kim, who manages The Fuzz Family Get Together, also started A Little Left of Center. And finally, don't forget to visit Kat's A Blog for Emma.

Make New Friends, Keep the Old...

Wow, in the past few days we have made some wonderful New Friends. Checking out their blogs, reading about them, getting to know each other is really so much fun. Missy usually sits right here by me and we read together.

And some Old Friends now have their own blogs. Check these out:

Rose and Emily have welcomed the Young Royals, Brutus and Marigold, into their family. Rose is keeping an online record at: http://roseandtheroyals.blogspot.com/. She has taken and posted some fantastic photos and, of course, there are her great narratives of life with the Royals. Rose is also thinking of a name change for "The Fuzz-Zone" in honor of her growing family. Suggestions, anyone (I like Rose & the Royals!). Update: Done!

Another favorite is Karen C's blog for Grr, Midnight and Cocoa: http://grrmidnightcocoa.blogspot.com/. You can meet each of the three cats individually and learn the story about how Karen & Company found and captured three shy, wild, tiny kittens.

Missy's paws-down favorite, of course, is Casper. Check out http://caspermom.blogspot.com/. Casper's Mom, Monica, has that adorable baby picture of Casper -- Missy has that here, too. Love that photo, you can see the "Casper" look on his face, even as a widdle bitty kitten.

And shame on me. How could I forget my favorite kitty, Jake? Danielle now has a photo blogsite with pictures of the intrepid Jake, plus Spot and Casper: http://danniespics.blogspot.com/. If you haven't been following, Jake is a survivor, recovering against all odds.

Danielle is one busy lady, hosting the new photo blog plus her "famous" Venters Welcome blog: http://rantravevent.blogspot.com/ and the Stupid Trivia: http://stupidtrivia.blogspot.com/ (which Riquel ALWAYS wins).

Love these blogs. In my opinion, there just aren't enough pictures and stories about the brilliant Fuzz Pack Cats and all of our New Friends. So many clever cats, such talent -- I could just sit and read them all day (unfortunately, sometimes I do).

Missy Can Relax Now...

I installed IE7 Beta and it seems to be working fine. Missy is relieved, as you can see, that no more pertinent info about her is going to disappear off screen.

Missy says "HI" to all her friends, new and old, and thanks everyone for dropping by.

Display Problems...

Okay, this has nothing to do with Missy Blue Eyes. "So how can it be important...", she's asking me! Alas, Missy, it is.

We have been experiencing display problems where important information about Missy appears and disappears. Missy now agrees it is a PROBLEM!

On Kat's Cat of the Day blog today, Victor Tabbycat and his Mom guided us toward a thread discussing this problem.

After reading the threads and doing additional research, made a few changes in Missy's blog, just to test. So far, the text display is fine but the pictures are no longer positioned correctly. Sigh.

If this eliminates the text problems, will go in and manually position the photos (after a few hours of reading!). Right now am just leaving it alone to check. If anyone sees the text problems, would really appreciate a post. Please don't ask what's wrong with my photos. Ha-ha.

So Little Time, So Many Naps...

Well, Missy is now sleeping on the bed! She has claimed "her side", way over one-half of the queen-size bed. Her other favorite sleeping place is a neat "hidden" cubby she found, on a closet shelf tucked away behind the hanging clothes.

Missy Snores....

Missy fell asleep beside me while I was working on a computer program. Heard this strange, soft little noise beside me, it was Missy, just snoring away. Couldn't resist snapping a couple of pictures of her. Is there anything more relaxing than a sleeping cat?

Missy's New Toys, Part 2...

Well, it's been a few days since Missy received her new toys. Here is what has happened since. The catnip promptly died. The amazing "perpetual motion" toy was ignored. You could wind and wind and wind and there was NO motion. So it was passed on for another cat to ignore. The TurboScratcher remains, but in a slightly different capacity! Makes quite a nice bed, even equipped with a convenient tail holder.
